Job Title: Senior Optical Engineer
Manager's Title: Vice President of Manufacturing Operations

FSLA Status: Exempt
Overview: Reporting to the VP of Manufacturing Operations, the Senior Optical Engineer will be responsible for the optical testing of the of the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens (RxLAL), an advanced IOL technology that is being commercialized by RxSight. The successful candidate will be a technical expert in optical metrology; develop and implement optical test and inspection methods and protocols; assist in the product transfer from R&D. The position will interface extensively with R&D, Procurement and QA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- This individual will function as a technical expert and the owner of optical testing and inspection, manufacturing line design and operational performance of the RxLAL.
- Define and solve a wide range of problems inherent to testing of optical components and devices
- Deep understanding and experience with precision optical test equipment, processes and interpreting results.
- Develop optical testing processes, tools and fixtures to support device performance testing and execute validations.
- Support process improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency, as well as ensure business continuity and regulatory compliance
- Develop training processes and train operators.
- Interact with key vendors as necessary to achieve development goals and timelines
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated experience with optical metrology tools and technologies.
- Familiar with sources and detection in UV, visible and NIR bands.
- Experience in optical design using Zemax.
- Experience with mechanical design tool SolidWorks.
- Functional understanding of the full design cycle from concept to product release.
- Experience in communication with vendors regarding specifications of optical components and assemblies.
- Manufacturing process development for medical equipment desirable.
- Familiar with documentation requirements and procedures for an FDA regulated company
- A demonstrable track record of success in achieving and maintaining high quality standards
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply creative solutions to challenges
- The ability to establish priorities and build enthusiasm for projects
- Solid project management skills to handle multiple projects and set/manage timelines with a high degree of urgency
- Excellent communication skills in both oral and written formats, as well as excellent listening and problem-solving skills
- The ability to interface effectively with all levels and functions within the organization.
Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A
Education, Experience, and Training:
- BS in Engineering or related discipline and a minimum of 5 years’ direct experience in optical systems device industry specifically with optical process design and development, optical test methods techniques, optical system assembly and process validation.
- Experience developing and executing FDA approved process and equipment validations desirable.
- Experience developing efficient manufacturing process.
