Job Description: 

The Coherent Integrated Optical Systems business unit is a precision optics and optical assemblies design and manufacturing group, which specializes in high-precision aspheres for a variety of specialized applications including semiconductor and flat-panel display manufacturing, ground and space-based telescopes, defense systems and other exotic scientific and government-sponsored programs. The business encompasses the Tinsley Custom Optics product line, and is located in Richmond, CA. 

We are seeking a dynamic Senior Staff QA / QC Engineer to join our growing team.  


  • Experienced in the use of continuous improvement tools is preferred (e.g. kaizen, 5S’, 5Why’s, standard work, etc.) Green or Black belt certified. Or equivalent.  
  • Comprehensive understanding of ISO 9001 / AS9100 Quality System Standards. Lead auditor certifications or experience. Supporting customer, internal and ISO audits. Understanding of ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100.  
  • Coordinating MRB meetings. Preparing yield information, CAR activity, trends and work with mfg. to improve processes. Ensure quality issues are addressed through improvement projects. Participates in product design and design review activities to ensure products meet all customer specifications. 
  • Provide Quality engineering support to manufacturing teams in the fabrication and coating of precision optical components. Ability to work across various functional groups on a daily basis to accomplish goals. Provide technical problem solving to the Quality and manufacturing teams. Be able to interface with all departments on root cause analysis and corrective action recommendations of problems.  
  • Communicates product specifications to suppliers and assesses supplier’s ability to meet engineering and quality requirements. Evaluates suppliers’ internal functions to assess their overall performance and provides feedback in assessment of their operation. Monitor supplier’s quality looking for trends in performance.
  • Conducts routine and non-routine physical dimensional measurement testing using test equipment such as: optical comparators, gage blocks, dial indicators, calipers, micrometers, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), etc.
  • Ability to provide written work/inspection instruction and procedures.
  • Efficient with GD& T, understanding Drawings and Specifications that will aid in creating AS9100 FAI reports. Proficient with various Mil, ISO, DIN, ANSI and standards for optical inspection and testing. 

Education and Work Experience: 

  • Engineering Degree, i.e. Optical, Electrical, Mechanical. ASQC Quality Engineering certificate  
  • Proficient skill level with Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. 
  • Familiar with Configuration Control Management such as Agile and Oracle.
