National Aerospace Solutions (NAS), LLC is the team selected by the U.S. Air Force (USAF) to conduct Test and Operations Sustainment activities at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex, Arnold Air Force Base, in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Job Duties: 

  • Assigned to a Senior Engineer involved in the research and development of advanced non-intrusive diagnostic test techniques.
  • Responsible for the development of equipment/system designs to include concept sketches and layouts
  • Work with Skilled craft workforce to develop safe work instructions and operating procedures
  • Prepares System Safety Hazard analysis as required to ensure safe operation of development systems
  • Prepare and review engineering reports, papers, equipment specifications and develops engineering calculations associated with optical diagnostics
  • Responsible for submitting equipment requirements in a timely fashion to ensure continuity of operation.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree from an accredited college/university in Photonics Science, Applied Physics or Aerospace/Mechanical engineering.  Preference will be given for advanced degrees and/or practical work experience in areas such as photo optical engineering/imaging, light/laser based measurements and diagnostics: radiometry and spectroscopy, and chemical species diagnostics. 
  • Basic skills in oral and written communication are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical knowledge of optical diagnostics systems, measurement systems and theory, engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and reporting of results.
  • Experience with supersonic and hypersonic ground test facilities and air breathing and rocket system testing is desirable.
  • Demonstrated  experience with implementation of advanced diagnostic techniques such as CARS (Coherent anti-Stokes Raman Scattering), BOS (Background Oriented Schlieren), LIF (Laser-Induced Fluorescence) and PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) within ground aerospace test facilities is desirable
  • Experience using Class 4 continuous wave and pulsed lasers, solid state, dye and gas lasers is highly desired.
  • Experience with software such as MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python, ANSYS Workbench, and Microsoft office suite is desirable.
  • Useful skills include systems engineering, design principles, data analysis, radiation and optical physics, measurement technologies, and supersonic and hypersonic facilities systems.
