As a defense contractor, there are specific programs requiring a certain level of security clearance and special access for assigned staff. The Hardware Engineering Center (HWEC) is an engineering organization that focuses on product producibility and mission assurance. It is a vital link in the integrated product development process that allows Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems to introduce reliable new products faster, better, and more economically.

HWEC seeks a motivated Optical/Physics Engineer willing to apply their knowledge in optical design, analysis, integration, and test to the development of advanced optical imaging telescopes, spectrometers, sensors, and special test equipment. Tasks may include performing critical opto-mechanical alignments, testing and troubleshooting of refractive and reflective assemblies, analyzing line of sight and budget allocations, optical requirements derivation, creating test and alignment plans, and interfacing with customers and suppliers. This engineer will be expected to work in a collaborative environment, at times contributing to multiple programs as a technical resource. Successful candidates should expect to be immersed in a fast-paced, team-based, and challenging technical environment where an individual with talent and initiative can stand out and thrive.

Required Skills:

  • Laboratory and analytical experience required. 
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date

Desired Skills:

  • SSBI strongly desired.
  • GPA of 3.0 or greater (Please upload an unofficial transcript when applying).
  • Experience with optical hardware intended for use in space environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in in depth analysis and modeling of wavefront, stray light, radiometric, and line of sight requirements and capabilities.
  • Experience in alignment, evaluation, data collection and analysis for reflective and refractive multi-spectral imagers.
  • Additional experience in high energy lasers and large format optics are a plus.
  • Team and leadership experience.

Required Education: 

  • Must have a MS degree with a major in Optics, Physics, Engineering, or Mathematics, with an emphasis in optics by Fall 2017 or have graduated within 18 months prior to start.
