Petrie Dishes

Petri Dishes -- One for each kaleidoscope

Description:
60 mm x 15 mm Plastic Petri Dish

Material supplier:  VWR .  VWR# 25384-090.  500 per case.  Cost is about $30.74 per case.

Preparation:
First:  Glue the bottoms of the Petrie dishes to one end of the PVC tubes.  This forms the window on the end of the kaleidoscope.  The PVC cement should be first applied to the outside of the end of the tube, and the dish is then placed on the tube.  Be careful not to get cement on the center of the dish as this will spoil the window.  Be sure to do this operation in a well-ventilated room, and give the glue plenty of time to dry prior to having the students assemble the kaleidoscope.  For a larger view, click on the thumbnail at right.
Second:  Reserve the top (or large piece) for the final kaleidoscope.
