A finalist in our 1999 Competition, Sean Zimmerman, from Buena High School played the part of Curly in a production of Oklahoma! at the University of Arizona in the Fall of 2002..

2001 was our most successful year, with the winner, Daniel Kennedy of Desert Christian High School, coming in third nationally. He has recently been accepted by Juilliard, congratulations Daniel!

Our year-2002 winner was quoted in a long article in the April 24, 2002 issue of USA Today which reported the finals at the Lincoln Center. This is an extract from the article:

. . . Many of them talked about their dreams of becoming actors . . . But if their introduction to so much other talent was intimidating, they kept that to themselves.

"I was thinking of Center Stage (a 2000 movie about students in a prestigious New York ballet company) when they ask ‘Who was the best in your high school?’ and everyone raises their hands," said Lauren Heitzinger of Tucson’s Catalina Foothills High School. "All the kids here are amazing, but I knew there’s a lot of talent out there. It’s good to see it and to know that everyone struggles; everyone has the same problems you do. It makes you want to cry."

Which she almost did, but it was time to rush to a dinner/dance cruise around Manhattan . . .

O brave new world, that has such people in it!
