Research

General research occurs in the fields of image science with the current emphasis being on medical imaging. Specific topics of interest are:

  • Task-based assessment of image quality for both tumor detection and parameter estimation tasks

  • Understanding the statistical characteristics of images and the the objects being imaged

  • Imaging hardware optimization

  • Human-observer models for image analysis

  • Diffuse optical imaging and tomography and its applications in medicine

  • Assessing the benefits and risks of dual-modality imaging (especially the added risks of unnecessary CT scans)

  • Adaptive medical imaging

  • Cardiac SPECT imaging

  • Signal-detection theory
