Introduction to Interferometric Optical Testing (Modern Optical Testing)

Various SPIE Meetings
2007

Abstract: This short course gives an introduction to the field of interferometric optical testing. Topics covered include basic interferometers for optical testing, concepts of phase-shifting interferometry, including error analysis, long wavelength interferometry, testing of aspheric surfaces, measurement of surface microstructure, and the state-of-the-art of direct phase measurement interferometers.

Modern Interferometric Optical Testing

Frontiers in Optics
Rochester Convention Center
Rochester, NY

October 10, 2004

Abstract: This course describes the basic interferometry techniques used in the evaluation of optical components and optical systems. The course will cover interferogram interpretation, computer analysis and phase-shifting interferometry, as well as various commonly used wavefront-measuring interferometers such as the Fizeau, Twyman-Green, scatterplate and Smartt point diffraction. The instructor will describe the testing of mirrors and lenses.  The use of null lenses and computer generated holograms for the testing of aspheric surfaces will be described. The interferometric measurement of surface microstructure will be discussed. Techniques will be given for determining absolute measurements of flats, spheres and surface roughness. The course will cover state-of-the-art direct phase measurement interferometers.
