Dr. Alan
Kost Alan Kost received a B. S. in Physics in 1977 and a PhD in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics in 1983, both from the Physics Dept. at the University of Texas in Austin. After a year as a Lecturer at the University of Texas, Dr. Kost was Visiting Professor of Electrical Engineering at Southern Methodist University where he investigated photovoltaic solar cells. From 1985 to 1990, Dr. Kost was a Research Scientist at the Center for Laser Studies at the University of Southern California where he studied optical nonlinearities in semiconductor quantum wells. From 1990 to 2000, Dr. Kost was a Member of the Technical Staff at HRL Laboratories LLC (formerly the Hughes Research Laboratories). While at HRL, Dr. Kost’s studies included optical limiting in organic materials and optoelectronic integrated circuits. Since 2000, Dr. Kost has been an Associate Professor of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona where is a member of two industry sponsored centers - The Optical Data Storage Center and the Center for Optoelectronic Devices, Interconnects, and Packaging (COEDIP). His current research interests include nano-photonics and optical data storage. Dr. Kost is Chair of the Optical Society of America's Technical Group on Optoelectronic Devices and Nanostructures and Chair of the University of Arizona's Optics Valley Lecture Series. |
