In
November 2000, Arizona voters approved Proposition 301’s
statewide
0.6 percent sales tax increase
in an effort to help expand Arizona’s economic base.
The funds given to the universities were designated for
technology
and research initiatives of which 20 percent could be
used for related capital projects. The University of Arizona
chose seven areas where the Technology & Research
Initiative Funding (TRIF) would be utilized.
