    "Engineering Design for Consumer Optical Products"

    Consumer product design is complex and includes factors ranging from motivation to relationships with optical design somewhere in the story. Engineers can enhance their value add to make products successful by striving to understand the product’s value proposition and its implementation lifecycle from different points of view and incorporating such understanding in their workflow. This talk describes the typical workflow for modern consumer product design and the unique challenges that optical engineers and the optics industry in general face today.

    Speaker Bio(s):

    Anurag Gupta is lead of NEST sensor optics at Google.

    Gupta earned undergraduate and master’s degrees in physics from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (India) in 1997 and master's and doctoral degrees in optics from the University of Arizona in 2002. He has worked on more than 60 engineering projects at Tamarack Scientific (lithography and laser ablation tools), Hewlett Packard (digital projection), ORA (illumination engineering services) and Google (head of Google Glass optics from 2011 to 2014, currently lead for optics of NEST product lines). He holds more than 50 patents, with more than 40 pending, and has had 16 publications, presentations, talks or book chapters.

    Gupta is a senior member of the Optical Society (OSA) and co-chaired IODC 2010. He has chaired technical groups at OSA and reviewed for OSA and SPIE journals.
