Laser Fun Day

    Laser Fun Day
    Saturday, February 28, 2015 - 10:00am - 3:00pm
    Meinel Building

The University of Arizona College of Optical Sciences will hold its fifth Laser Fun Day as SOCk, its undergraduate and graduate student organization, brings the science of optics alive for area elementary- and middle-school children. The educational extravaganza takes place on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Meinel Building at 1630 E. University Blvd. on the UA campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

This year, Laser Fun Day is part of the celebration of the International Year of Light, as declared by the United Nations. Visitors to the event this year will learn how light and light-based technologies have impacted agriculture, education, energy, health and communications.

The overwhelmingly popular laser maze has been redesigned to make it even more enjoyable. Other exhibits include a six-foot-long kaleidoscope, laser radios, solar telescopes and an infrared camera, all of which illustrate different applications and properties of light. Kids will have the chance to take part in a mystery hunt and receive a prize at the end.

This special International Year of Light Laser Fun Day was made possible through grants from SPIE and the Optical Society (OSA).
