    Superconducting nanowire single photon detectors (SNSPDs) are the highest-performing detectors available for time-resolved single photon counting, from the UV to the mid-infrared. I will review recent progress in the field, including the development of 64-pixel SNSPD arrays for the NASA Deep Space Optical Communication project, and the recent demonstration of SNSPDs with timing jitter below 3 ps. We will discuss applications in free-space laser communication, quantum information science, biomedical imaging, astronomy, and lidar.
