RSVP for NAE Regional Meeting
Just under a week remains to register for the May 20 National Academy of Engineering Regional Meeting. This free event, which features some of the most exciting names in optics and astronomy, will discuss potentially hazardous asteroids and potentially habitable extrasolar planets; big telescopes and bigger plans; and the ways in which making mirrors may make solar energy more affordable.

The Michael Pate Optical Sciences Memorial Scholarship is accepting applications for its 2013 award through June 30.
Show Your Support with a Spiffy Shirt
As graduation approaches and so many scholars prepare to bid farewell to the fair halls of Meinel, OSC hopes that all of its graduates will take an important piece of the college with them.
And buying an OSC shirt, hat or mug is a great way to do just that! We encourage everyone — even those faculty, staff, students and alumni who aren't saying goodbye this month — to take a look at the College of Optical Sciences online store.
Webinar on Biomedical Optics
At 8 a.m. on May 14, associate professor Rongguang Liang will give a one-hour webinar on the fundamentals of optics in biomedical applications. Sponsored by Hamamatsu Photonics and Industrial Affiliates member Radiant Zemax, this webcast is free of charge.

Seniors Shine at Engineering Design Day
OSC's undergraduate Class of 2013 is a talented bunch, and the performance of their senior capstones at the April 30 Engineering Design Day certainly proved it.
Senior, Teaching Assistant Recognized by College of Engineering
The UA College of Engineering celebrated its spring 2013 outstanding students and student teachers in a special luncheon on the first day of May. Representing OSC were senior Hannah Grant, who was nominated for the honor by professor Robert A. Norwood, and M.S. student Eric Herman, who was lauded for his work in OPTI 380B by professor J. Scott Tyo.
For a slideshow that includes our winners as well as words from their nominators, please see Arizona Engineer Online on the College of Engineering website.
