In Memoriam: William R. (Bill) Owens, M.S. 2003

    OSC has learned of the Feb. 4 passing of alumnus Bill Owens, who received his M.S. from Tom D. Milster's group in 2003. He was 72.

    Classmate and colleague William Birdwell, M.S. 2003, offered the following remembrance:

    Bill and I were fellow “old guy” graduate students ... lab partners, collaborators designing a VCSEL for group design project and good friends. He was also a very experienced engineer. I learned a lot from him. We had fun together at OSC.

    ... I have lost a great friend, and the College of Optical Sciences has lost a terrific alumnus.
