OSC Alumnus Named as CEO for SPIE

    The College of Optical Sciences wishes to congratulate alumnus Dr. Kent Rochford on his recent appointment as the new CEO for SPIE. Most recently, Dr. Rochford was the Associate Director for Laboratory Programs at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Dr. Rochford received his Ph.D. from OSC in 1990 under advisor OSC Professor George Stegemen, authoring his Ph.D. thesis entitled, "Linear and Nonlinear Optical Properties of Polydiacetylene Waveguides." Since completing his degree, Dr. Rochford went on to a successful and diverse career now culminating in the great honor to lead SPIE.

    Dr. Eugene Arthurs, current SPIE CEO, had the following to say about Dr. Rochford,

    "With his long involvement in the optics and photonics community, as well as the critical experience of applying the science to impactful, robust solutions useful to industry, Kent will be a terrific asset for SPIE in its global efforts...I look forward to his leadership of the SPIE staff and the outstanding work they do for the SPIE community as we strive together to further our understanding of our universe and improve lives using the extraordinary and versatile gift of light."
