OSC at SPIE Photonics West 2018

    The College of Optical Sciences was happy to be present for the 2018 SPIE Photonics West Conference in San Francisco, CA. A number of faculty and students attended to participate both as attendees and presenters. Additionally, the college hosted a booth where Melissa Ayala and Lindsay Loebig, Senior Academic Advisors, and Amy Phillips, Senior Licensing Manager, presented the many opportunities available at the college.

    Some faculty presenters at Photonics West included, Prof. Hong Hua "Optimizing Head-Mounted light field displays for quality and comfort," Prof. Alexandre Laurain "Structure and cavity geometry optimization for ultrashort and high power pulse generation from VECSEL," Prof. Masud Mansuripur "Thermal physics, radiation pressure, and photon momentum," Prof. Jennifer Barton "Structural and functional assessment of intense therapeautic ultrasound effects on partial Achilles tendon transection," and Prof. Euan McLeod "Rapid nanophotonic structure design and optimization using a coupled dipole approach."

    Additionally, OSC students made a presence both in the audience and as speakers. Students on the agenda included, Travis Sawyer "Evaluation of segmentation algorithms for optical coherence tomography images of ovarian tissue," David Vega "Full Optical model of micro-endoscope with optical coherence microscopy, multiphoton microscopy and visible capabilities," Ross Uthoff "Development and characterization of a dual-modality smartphone-based imaging system for oral cancer detection," Robert Rockmore "Supercontinuum generation and beatnote detection using ultrafast VECSEL seed oscillators," and Liliana Ruiz Diaz "High-reflectivity Bragg mirrors for IR applications using novel chalcogenide hybrid inorganic/organic polymers (CHIPs)."
