The college made quite a splash at the latest Optics + Photonics conference, held Aug. 25-29 at the San Diego Convention Center.

Three members of the OSC community were elected Senior Members of SPIE: assistant research professor Jeffrey S. Czapla-Myers, "for achievements in radiometric calibration and remote sensing"; Yasufumi Enami, Ph.D. 2003, a professor in the School of Systems Engineering at the Kochi University of Technology (Japan), "for achievements in polymer photonics, polymeric modulators, waveguide devices [and] biophotonic sensors"; and Associate Dean for Academic Programs Carl F. Maes, "for achievements in optics education."

As SPIE reported the newest addition to its presidential chain, it was noted that H. Philip Stahl, Ph.D. 1985, will begin his term as president on Jan. 1, 2014.

Several students were celebrated as SPIE scholarship winners; their successes are enumerated separately.

And finally, some familiar faces (and neckties) showed up in the event's commemorative photo gallery.
