    Travis Sawyer Awarded Churchill Scholarship

College of Optical Sciences senior and Optics Ambassador Travis Sawyer was one of two UA engineering students to be awarded the prestigious Churchill Scholarship for 2016. The scholarship is given for outstanding academic achievement and proven research talent in science, engineering or mathematics. Each recipient will complete a one-year master's degree program at the University of Cambridge in England.

"Hopefully, I can make a contribution or invent a technology that helps someone in the same way optics helped me," Travis says. "I was extremely lucky to have several wonderful mentors as an undergraduate, who shaped me into the person and student that I am today. Specifically, Dr. Mahmoud Fallahi, Dr. John Greivenkamp, Dr. Robert Erdmann and Dr. Mike Nofziger have been huge influences in my development as an engineer and researcher."

A huge congratulations from all of us here at OSC. Read the official UA News article for more on Travis and his fellow scholarship-winner, and for more on the Scholarship, visit the official Churchill Scholarship website.
