Welcome, Anna Marie and Amber

    OSC is happy to welcome two recent hires. Anna Marie Garcia is an Administrative Associate for the college and Amber Soergel is a new Senior Academic Advisor.

    Anna Marie Garcia brings 30+ years’ experience in the area of financial and office management. As Office Administrator for the Church of the Painted Hills, she was responsible for the financial and administrative functions of running a private organization. While employed with Hearit-Speech Banana Therapy Company, she held the position of Office Manager/Bookkeeper, as well as Manager for Shipping and Receiving. Administrative experience gained at Raytheon/Hughes Aircraft strengthened her skills in managing a large engineering group of 25 employees. Here she maintained project and employee records, coordinated travel arrangements and events. At OSC, Anna Marie will participate in the rotation of the Colloquium Lecture Series, coordinate special events/workshops, cross-train with the Admin Team and provide administrative assistance to academic faculty and their research teams supporting activity in academia, research, and service.     Amber R. Soergel is the new Senior Academic Advisor in the College of Optical Sciences. She joined us on Monday, October 22, 2018. Amber brings fifteen years of undergraduate advising experience in STEM fields. She coordinated recruitment and retention efforts for the Physiology program in the UA College of Medicine before moving to the School of Molecular Sciences at Arizona State University, where she managed all aspects of the undergraduate advising services. In this capacity, Amber worked with faculty in advancing curriculum, establishing an online program, and utilizing new technology in teaching and advising. Amber is here to assist undergraduate students in navigating the curriculum and policies associated with earning the Bachelor of Science in Optical Sciences & Engineering. This will include coaching their efforts in networking with Industrial Affiliates and finding success as they start a career in optics.
