Wyant Named 2019 Accountabil-IT Lifetime Achievement Awardee

    At this year’s 2019 Governor’s Celebration of Innovation Awards/Tech Showcase on Oct. 24th James C. Wyant will be awarded the 2019 AccountabilIT Lifetime Achievement Award from the Arizona Technology Council. Arizona Governor Doug Ducey will present the award to Wyant at the event, recognizing him for his lifetime achievements in academia, industy and science.

    Considered a pioneer in the field of optics, Wyant's work includes co-founding two Tucson-based optics companies and serving in teaching, research and leadership roles at the University of Arizona. He was the founding dean for what is now the Wyant College of Optical Sciences. Dean of the college, Thomas L. Koch says, “It’s fantastic to see this richly-deserved recognition of Jim’s many successes and impact – in technology and business innovation, professional society leadership, and of course leadership in education. Jim’s incredible generosity and commitment to the future success of the college ensure that his impact will continue for many generations to come.”

    Wyant expressed his happiness to receive this honor. “Being chosen for the 2019 GCOI Lifetime Achievement award is an honor and a privilege. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given to advance the field of optics and photonics within the University of Arizona and the College of Optical Sciences. Arizona is truly a state for innovators, and I’m proud to be considered as one of them.”

    The event will take place at the Phoenix Convention Center and will include recognition for many businesses that have gone above and beyond in their fields, including: academia, innovation, and transformational leadership. A full list of awardees is included here.
