2008 Engineering Design Day

Our seniors take Engineering 498A-B, a year-long course in which they work in cross-disciplinary teams to solve industry-sponsored real-world design problems. The objectives of the course are to guide the students in:

  • applying a systematic design methodology to a realistic, open-ended, multidisciplinary design problem from start to finish
  • applying approaches for developing innovative solutions
  • applying math, science and engineering fundamentals in a design process
  • working effectively on teams with engineers from multiple disciplines
  • using project management tools effectively and
  • communicating to a broad audience via both written and oral reports

At the end of the academic year, the teams show their work at UA's Engineering Design Day. The projects are judged and prizes are awarded. This year, our students received 3 major prizes.
