Gentex is highly vertically integrated, meaning all steps in construction of our devices occur on-site, and you’ll be able to see them happen. As part of your internship, you’ll have the opportunity to interface with, and learn from, technical experts from our Corporate Metrology, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and Machine Vision departments.
Your daily work will be with a cross-functional team of technical experts to improve our processes for building and characterizing new products. Because “you can’t build what you can’t measure,” your role as optical metrology intern will be to enable the construction of new products by pushing the boundaries of Gentex’s measurement technologies.
The Ideal Candidate will have some of the following:
- Experience with interferometry, wavefront error sensors, deflectometry, or other non-contact dimensional measurement techniques
- Proficiency in processing data (for example, in Matlab, Python, or a similar language)
- Proficiency in technical communication, for example by…
- Creating figures that beautifully demonstrate results and communicate results to technically educated non-experts
- Understanding the “why” in a request so we can provide what customers want (not just what they asked for)
Your qualifications should include
- A bachelor’s degree in a technical field
- Some graduate school (MS, PhD or similar) in a field related to optics, optical engineering, or metrology
- Hands on experience in a laboratory setting is a plus
