Goal:  This course will provide the student with a fundamental understanding of optical system design and instrumentation.  The course builds upon the foundations of geometrical optics that were presented in OPTI 201R to discuss a variety of optical systems.  Other topics include chromatic effects, camera systems and illumination optics.  A special emphasis is placed on the practical aspects of the design of optical systems.

Instructor Notes: Notes will be distributed at cost

Supplemental Notes:   Prisms
                                   Paraxial Angles

Required Text:  Field Guide to Geometrical Optics John E. Greivenkamp  ISBN# 0-8194-5294-7

Homework Assignments & Solution Sets:  These will be posted as .pdf files through this website.  Solutions will be posted after the due date for the homework set.  If you need Acrobat Reader to view .pdf files, please see the Adobe website for a free download.
