We’re looking for a Camera Engineer to join the Snap Lab team! 

What you’ll do:

  • Develop next generation camera hardware based on customer feedback and user research including sensor selection, and developing lens requirements.
  • Lead camera testing at Snap lab and at manufacturing sites for camera design evaluation, module prototype builds, and qualification 
  • Define testing and qualification plans of the camera lens at different stages of development, from concept to production
  • Collaborate with imaging firmware, tuning, and software engineers to properly develop testing and calibration solutions
  • Set up and conduct optical laboratory tests of systems for both prototype and production use
  • Evaluate and debug camera hardware at module and product levels with supporting simulation
  • Document camera-specific design, test, and manufacturing requirements
  • Travel to supplier facilities for product development and production bring-up

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience with compact camera image sensors, lenses, manufacturing, testing, and module suppliers
  • Knowledge of standard miniature camera module assembly processes
  • Experience managing vendors capable of high volume production and test processes for high-precision, high-volume modules
  • Experience with image quality evaluation including test charts, algorithms, and lighting
  • Experience with Python/Matlab/JMP for data analysis
  • Experience with image data manipulation and computation and interpretation of standard image quality metrics through Imatest or similar 
  • Someone who can work independently and manage internal and external resources

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in optical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience designing, testing, or building high volume camera modules

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the image signal processing pipeline
  • Familiarity with applications of computational photography and computer vision
  • Expertise in optical depth sensing technologies such as structured illumination and time of flight
  • Master’s or doctoral degree in optical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or related field
