McMurry University is establishing a new major in Engineering Physics. As a result, we are soliciting applications for an anchor faculty member to lead this effort. The successful candidate will be a scholar-practitioner who is passionate about inspiring and mentoring undergraduate students. We seek a colleague who will diversify our team by bringing expertise in an engineering field. The candidate should be committed to undergraduate teaching excellence with a strong emphasis on undergraduate research and project-based learning. The selected candidate will be tasked with developing a structure and piloting curricula for the new Engineering Physics major. He/she will also be involved with development and testing of the Summer Bridge program for under-prepared incoming students. We seek candidates with at least a Master’s degree in an engineering field with 18 hours in the discipline required. A professional engineering license and/or experience working in an engineering field is preferred.

This Instructor, or full-time tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor with appropriate credentials, position begins August 2021. Salary is commensurate with experience and education. Development of this new degree program is being funded by a U.S. Department of Education Title V Developing Hispanic Serving Institutions grant.

McMurry University (McM) is a private, liberal arts university affiliated with the United Methodist Church. It serves a population of over 1000 undergraduate students. It is historically known for the strength of its science programs. During the last decade, the McM Physics Program has experienced substantial growth in several areas, including the number of students, the number of physics graduates, as well as the diversity of the student population. The majority of the recent graduates are pursuing careers in engineering or closely related fields.

Essential Duties Summary:

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and pilot curricula and provide leadership for the Engineering Physics program
  • Select and acquire needed equipment for the program
  • Pilot Engineering Physics courses
  • In collaboration with the Physics Department, develop evaluation processes for the Engineering Physics program and courses and supervise the evaluation process

Assist with the following:

  • Engineering and Physics related academic club activities
  • The development of course content for the Summer Bridge program
  • The evaluation and revision process for the Summer Bridge program
  • Piloting Summer Bridge instruction
  • Gathering and interpreting data for project evaluation

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in an Engineering field with 18 hours in the discipline required
  • Evidence of thorough and accurate knowledge of discipline required
  • Curriculum development experience
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team

Minimum Required Education: Master's Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Holds a current Professional engineering license
  • PhD in closely related field
  • Two years or more of professional work experience and/or post-secondary teaching. A combination of teaching and related work experience preferred
  • Background in CAD/manufacturing, MatLab/ Simulink system modeling, materials science, engineering education, or engineering mechanics
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of ABET accreditation policies and procedures
  • Experience working with Hispanic, low income, and first-generation students
  • Fluency in Spanish
