Spectra-Physics has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Engineering Tech to join its innovative product development Engineering team to develop cutting edge laser systems. The ideal candidate will contribute to the prototype assembly and test of various free-space and fiber-based lasers.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct engineering tests and detailed experimental testing to collect design data. Contribute to the characterization and validation of components in lasers for performance upgrade.
  • Build, test and document prototypes. Follow procedures developed by engineers and suggests improvements to these procedures to optimize process.
  • Manage and keep accurate records of engineering material inventory, laboratory maintenance, and create purchase requisitions.
  • Assist in determining root cause and corrective actions to remedy in-house or field failures.

Required skills and experience:

  • Strong prototyping skills. Hands-on experience in lasers, including subassembly, cavity alignment and test, experience in tunable external cavity diode laser is preferred.
  • Proven ability to independently set up and perform optical and electro-optic measurements, evaluate the results and clearly communicate the results to engineers and management.
  • Proven ability to use test and diagnostic equipment including but not limited to such as optical and electrical spectrum analyzer, optical power, wavelength, and polarization characterization instruments and test apparatus which may require software skills.
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary team and interact with NPI and Manufacturing Engineers in evaluating and documenting specifications in new product development and in design transfer to production.

Preferred skills and experience:

  • AS/Technical degree in Lasers, Optics or related engineering field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience.
  • Working knowledge of Labview and SAP would be a plus.
