Job Description: 

The Department of Biomedical Engineering in the College of Engineering at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, seeks applications for the position of Master of Engineering Director to be appointed at the level of Senior Lecturer.
We seek a person with a Ph.D. and/or equivalent industrial experience in an engineering field with at least 5-10 years of industrial experience in biomedical device research and product development and/or the management of such activities. We seek a person for a 100% to 80% position, where the latter appointment could be structured to maintain some outside effort such as consulting. Excellent classroom teaching skills are required as well as technical skills for mentoring teams of students in project work. Demonstrated experience organizing and leading teams is expected.

The successful applicant will have a diverse range of duties:
• Lead the Master of Engineering program, working closely with the Department's faculty and the College of Engineering
• Market the Master of Engineering program to diverse groups of stakeholders including (1) potential students, (2) future employers of our graduated students, and (3) potential industrial sponsors of Master of Engineering design projects
• Further develop and teach the key “BME 5500 – Product Engineering and Design in Biomedical Engineering” course which includes familiarity with the FDA, Quality System Regulation and other relevant regulatory policies
• Solicit and mentor industrially-sponsored student design projects
• Advise current students on academics and careers, including helping students with internship and permanent job solicitation and preparation
• Cultivate strong ongoing relationships with industry that will result in industrially-sponsored design projects and internship opportunities for our students as well as permanent employment opportunities for our graduates.
• Maintain contact with the growing base of alumni for our young department
