ZYGO seeks a highly talented, hands-on team player with strong technical and communication skills to conceive, develop and integrate specialized manufacturing and metrology equipment for custom extreme precision optical components. The ideal candidate will: Operate proactively to propose upgrades and understand machine failure modes, taking action where necessary. Basic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and develop equipment requirements with multidisciplinary staff to ensure compatibility of processing and metrology methods. 
  • Learn, maintain, and improve existing manufacturing equipment.
  • Architect automated manufacturing and metrology systems.
  • Conceive and plan projects involving definition and selection of new approaches and concepts in manufacturing and metrology. 
  • Provide training to professional staff and production staff.  

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer Science (with Control Systems background), or similarly Applied Engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of directly applicable experience designing and integrating precision manufacturing equipment.
  • Knowledgeable in hardware integration, including embedded controls and PLC programming, and possess the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics/specifications.
  • Knowledge of software engineering with the ability to work closely in a team setting with that discipline.
  • Strong motion control background with experience in multi-axis real-time control.
  • Must possess ability to prepare equipment development plans, cost estimates, schedule estimates and write detailed technical reports/documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills for constructing project plans, equipment documentation and schematics and interfacing with other functional departments.
  • Must be principle centered and a team player.
  • Physical Requirements:  Walking, standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), stooping, and keyboarding.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, etc)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical and electronic systems
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers and signal processing
  • Experience designing and analyzing circuits
  • Experience with Solidworks
  • Working knowledge of Python programming language or ability to learn
