Job Description: 

Summary of Position:

Optical Engineer collaborating in development of automated instrumentation, machine vision, and robotic systems for use in research, development, and manufacturing of Intraocular Lenses (IOLs), IOL delivery systems, and surgical equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize Agile development fundamentals to deliver innovative solutions in fast paced environment.
  • Identification, development, and qualification of optical technology solutions for R&D and Manufacturing, including measurement of EFL, MTF, wavefront aberrations, and custom optical properties.
  • Develop and validate optical modeling simulations for performance of optical lenses and IOLs in metrology instruments.
  • Development of documentation and procedures for verification and validation of new & existing optical metrology equipment in GxP environments.

Major Accountabilities

  • Work in hands-on environment with multi-disciplinary team. Design, model, and test optical systems and optical technologies in laboratory and clean environment conditions.
  • Identification, development, and demonstration (proof-of-concept) of optical technology solutions.
  • Contribute to sourcing and development of electro-optical instruments and sub-systems from partner vendors.
  • Evaluate and document system compliance for ISO validation of equipment optics.
  • Implement innovative approaches for delivering technology solutions faster and with higher quality.
  • Development of documentation and procedures for measurement system analysis (MSA), verification and validation of new & existing equipment.

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Optical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience or coursework in optical design engineering and optical simulation (ZeMax or Code-V); preferred hands-on experience in multi-element lens system design and assembly.
  • Academic or work experience in laboratory testing and prototyping of optical systems.
  • Preferred experience or course work in illumination system design and stray light analysis (FRED, LightTools).
  • Preferred experience or course work in use of MatLab for engineering calculation.

Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +8 yrs; Assoc.+4 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
