Description

The Quantum Computing team at ColdQuanta is looking for an Optical Engineer with hands-on experience designing and building high-precision optical systems. We are looking for self-motivated individuals with strong problem solving and technical skills. The candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on R&D projects and support development of new concepts and approaches for future development of the optical system.

This position may require access to information protected under U.S. export control laws and regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Please note that any offer for employment may be conditioned on authorization to receive software or technology controlled under these U.S. export control laws and regulations without sponsorship for an export license.

Requirements

  • Skilled Communicator
  • Ability to provide concise and structured verbal and written communication
  • Technical documentation (e.g., alignment instruction, tolerance analysis review)
  • Strong technical background in optics
  • Keen understanding of physical optics and beam propagation
  • Design an optical system to achieve desired performance
  • Gather requirements and propagate high level requirements to sub-systems using modeling
  • Develop and implement test methods for laser beam propagation in optical system

Desired : experience with laser beam characterization, diffractive optical element, acousto-optic modulator/deflector, and beam scanning method

Hardware skills:

Design, assemble, alignment:

  • Lasers and optics
  • Fiber optics
  • Optomechanical assembly
  • Precision alignment
  • Software skills:
  • Optical system design and simulation
  • Zemax or Code V to model sequential and non-sequential systems
  • Python (desired)
  • Problem solving skill
  • Troubleshoot technical problems with the other engineering team and support/lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action

Benefits

The budgeted salary for this position is between $86,000/year to $120,000/year.
