KBR is seeking an Optical Lab Engineer to support the MIST Contract with NASA at Goddard Space Flight Center.  The Optical Lab Engineer will provide optical hands-on engineering support for development and testing of optics components with laser system as a light source.  They will also evaluate laser performance at the component and system levels via hands-on experimental methods.

Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder.


  • Provide hands-on optical engineering support in development, assembly, aligning, and testing of laser optical components.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations and support project level reviews.
  • Write test procedures, plans & reports, as necessary.
  • Successfully work with technicians and other optical, manufacturing, and quality engineers.
  • Demonstrate ethical and professional behavior in accordance with company values.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • BS degree or higher in Optical Engineering, Aerospace engineering, Physics, or related fields. Equivalent experience in engineering/optometry will be considered.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working in an optical lab environment.
  • In depth technical understanding of laser physics.
  • Hands-on optical laboratory skills including optical handling, assembly, and alignment of laser systems.
  • Experience operating optical test equipment including laser power meters, theodolites, integrating spheres, polarimeters, spectrometers, voltmeters, signal generators, spectrometers.
  • Capable of working independently, completing tasks without close supervision.
  • Shall have good teaming, communication, and time management skills with strong aptitude for attention to detail and handling of sensitive hardware is a must.
  • Applicant must be skilled with recording and documenting detailed, precise data and information.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • Experience in the development and qualification of Flight Optical Systems.
  • Solid understanding of the NASA flight hardware development process and methodology is strongly desired.
