Summary

About the Position: This position serves as a Physicists DB-1310-03 in DAC in White Sands Missile Range New Mexico. You will serve as a Physicists responsible for carrying out advanced research and development activities involving complex equipment, emerging technologies or scientific phenomena. 

The pay band DB-03 is equivalent to the former GS12 Step 1 through GS-14 step 10 grade level. 

Responsibilities

  • Determine the effectiveness of survivability systems and integrated defense systems.
  • Provide Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) oversight support to system program managers.
  • Guide and evaluate the design and development activities in achieving new soldier survivability products in the fields of optics and electro-optical sensors and emitters operating within the infrared, visible, and ultraviolet wavelength bands.
  • Perform soldier survivability assessments (SSvA) for system program managers.
  • Perform research and scientific work in the investigation and applications of the relations between energy in the areas of optics and electro-optics.
  • Complete research of new equipment, material, or concepts that significantly add to the understanding and usefulness of previously unexplained or untested phenomena.

Basic Education Requirement for a Physicist 1310: 

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physics, or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. The courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound. 

OR 

Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound. 

In addition to meeting one of the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: 

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) knowledge of developing, and executing optical and electro-optical infrared (EO/IR) systems; 2) Review optical and electro-optical infrared test procedures and methodologies; and 3) write and review test reports, test plans, and test procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DB-02 or GS-11). 

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (DB-02 or GS-11).
