Job Description: 

The Quantum Sensing and Timing Group invites applications for a post-doctoral research position to support fundamental research efforts related to microcombs and the development of microresonator based photonic devices for applications based on atomic navigation systems and timing within the Air Force Research Laboratory on Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The successful applicant will participate in and contribute to on-going research programs within the group. It will also be necessary to be able to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance in order to hold this position; however, the research itself will not be classified. Initial appointment will be for one year, with the potential for renewal contingent on funding and performance. Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in physics, optical or photonic engineering, or a related field
  • Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a US government security clearance

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with microresonator photonic devices
  • Demonstrated high-level work in the field of physics or photonics
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and adapt to new projects and technical areas
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present challenging scientific topics clearly and the ability to create well-written papers and technical reports with little or no oversight
  • Excellent team member with the ability to work in diverse teams
  • Highly creative and curious in a laboratory environment
  • Experience with the theory, design, and control of microresonator based photonic devices
  • Experience with optical frequency combs based on microresonators, fiber lasers, or free space lasers
