Job Description: 
At CVI Laser Optics, we specialize in the design and manufacture of high-performance optical components for use in lasers, laser beam conditioning, and laser beam delivery from the UV to the near-IR. We create optical assemblies and subsystems for volume OEM applications in science and industry, including spherical components, flats, polarization control, prisms and waveplates. We also provide a range of low dispersion and dispersion compensated optical components for ultrafast laser applications.
 
The CVI Laser Optics Engineering Department is seeking an R&D Engineer to design, develop, and test electronic and electromechanical systems used in testing and manufacturing of CVI’s diverse product offerings, including optical components and coatings, optical shutters, and optomechanical assemblies and systems. The successful candidate for this role will be highly skilled in cross-departmental communication and documenting engineering processes at all stages of the product life cycle from design to production.
 
Responsibilities:
• Designs, develops, tests, reviews, and updates existing electronic and electromechanical systems and software, both for existing tools and capabilities as well as for new product development efforts.
• Creates user interfaces and data collection tools for new and existing systems.
• Provides procedural documentation, drawings and specifications to inform others on how to fabricate, construct, assemble and maintain newly developed and revised products (both hardware and software).
• Identifies opportunities for improvement, recommends and leads research and modification projects.
• Creates and executes against designs of experiments and other tests to verify performance of new or existing systems or software.
• Ensures changes in products/production are effectively communicated to all affected.
• Provides engineering support to production areas on an as-needed basis.
• Trains technicians to operate new or updated equipment and collect measurements
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering, applied physics, or equivalent field
• Experience in scientific programming (such as LabView, Python, MATLAB, or equivalents) for system control and user interface development
• Ability to read, understand, and apply a variety of job-related instructions and documents, including engineering drawings.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks both of similar and varying priority.
 
Additional Qualifications Preferred:
• Experience with firmware/software development for board-level and/or systems-level design
• Experience in hardware/firmware design and troubleshooting
• Knowledge of FPGA and/or PLC programming and processing
• Master’s degree or higher or 5+ years’ experience.
• Demonstrated experience with design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis.
• Project planning, project management, and stage gate process experience.
