Job Description: 
At CVI Laser Optics, we specialize in the design and manufacture of high-performance optical components for use in lasers, laser beam conditioning, and laser beam delivery from the UV to the near-IR. We create optical assemblies and subsystems for volume OEM applications in science and industry, including spherical components, flats, polarization control, prisms and waveplates. We also provide a range of low dispersion and dispersion compensated optical components for ultrafast laser applications.
 
The CVI Laser Optics Engineering Department is seeking a Test Engineer to design and develop custom optical component test instruments for testing current and future products. The role will contribute to the diverse product offerings we develop and manufacture, including optical components, optical coatings, and optomechanical assemblies and systems. The successful candidate for this role will be highly skilled in cross-departmental communication and documenting engineering processes at all stages of the product life cycle from design to production.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for maintaining and supporting existing optical component test instrumentation, including but not limited to: interferometers, ellipsometers, polarimeters, and laser based test systems
  • Leads engineering support to the operations teams for production operated optical component test equipment.
  • Designs, develops, and tests new, and updates existing, optical component test instrumentation (hardware, software, and data collection tools)
  • Responsible for data collection, reporting and documentation for R&D test instruments.
  • Provides procedural documentation for test instruments
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement, recommends and leads research and modification projects.
  • Ensures changes in tools/process are effectively communicated to all affected
  • Trains technicians to operate test equipment and collect measurements
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in optics, optical engineering, applied physics, or equivalent field
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply a variety of job-related instructions and documents, including engineering drawings.
  • Experience with scientific computing and data analysis tools such as MATLAB or Python.
  • Demonstrated experience with design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks both of similar and varying priority.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or higher in optics, optical engineering, or equivalent field or 5+ years’ experience.
  • Theoretical and practical understanding of geometrical optics, aberration theory, interference, lasers, and thin film coatings.
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning systems.
  • Project planning, project management, and stage gate process experience
