The Advanced Technology Center (ATC) is the research lab for Lockheed Martin Space. We are searching for an Optical Analyst join our exceptional team building the next generation of advanced space science instruments for astrophysics, heliophysics, and earth sciences. In this role, you will support the Advanced Technology Center (ATC) by working with the flight optics team to develop optical test requirements, test procedures, and conduct tests through development and final integration of our science payloads.

You will have the opportunity to be a part of a high-performing team with responsibilities that include:
• Create schematics or other physical layouts of integrated optical systems and components consistent with company process and functional constraints.
• Troubleshoot, solve, and refine final optical designs to optimize designs for target dimensions, physical tolerances, or processing constraints.
• Model optical systems and integrate them into test setups
• Conduct/oversee testing across product development life cycle and program testing milestones
• Use software test tools designed to provide automated detailed test results

You would typically have a Bachelors degree and 5-10 years of professional experience, a Masters and 3-8 years, or a PhD and 0-5 years.

Basic Qualifications:
• Knowledge of a broad range of optics including imaging, illumination, radiometry and photometry, physical and geometric optics, statistics, and/or polarization
• Experience in ray tracing software such as ZEMAX or Code-V
• Experience using C/C++/C#, Python, or MATLAB
• US Citizenship or Permanent Resident/Green Card status
Desired Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in an optical engineering/physics or equivalent technical discipline. Masters or PhD degree preferred.
• Specialized understanding of sources (lasers and LEDs), diffraction gratings, light collection and detection methods, diffractive optics, optical materials, and thin film optics
• Knowledge/experience in optical fiber handling and setup
• Experience in Stray Light analysis using tools such as FRED
• Prior experience with lab and/or clean room protocols
• Lens/Optical System design experience
• Experience engaging with customers and stakeholders
• Experience with build, test, continuous delivery, and deployment
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
