Based on the event series presented by Tech Launch Arizona, the USPTO, and, Claim Your Seat at the Table is an exciting new resource for University of Arizona women interested in increasing their impact outside of academia by exploring commercialization and entrepreneurship.

In this four-session workshop, UArizona women will work with Tech Launch Arizona, ecosystem members, and mentors to learn how to think of themselves as inventors, how to build strong teams, how to find their customers, and how to raise money to achieve their goals:

Linking Your Passion to Impact: You ARE an Inventor!

    • This segment introduces the commercialization process and features successful women entrepreneurs at the University of Arizona and other universities and entities. Participants explore what their passion for research entails, and how we can link that passion to impact by shifting thinking toward inventorship, discussing potential ideas for commercialization, and reflecting upon the benefits and challenges of taking ideas to market.

Building a Team: No Woman is an Island

    • Participants discover the importance of building an effective team to bring their innovation to market.  They identify their own role in the process, and often recognize they don’t have to start a company or be the CEO.

Customer Discovery:  Who Will Pay For Your Invention?

    • Participants learn customer discovery interview skills based on proven NSF I-Corps programming.  Teams assess their technology's commercial viability and put Lean Startup Methodology techniques into use.

Beyond Grants: Understanding the Funding Lifecycle

    • Participants engage with experts from Tech Launch Arizona and representatives from potential funding sources (public and private) to identify the available options that are most appropriate at each stage.

    Inaugural cohort dates May 6, 13, 20 & 27.  3:30-5:00pm.
