The venerable Professor Emeritus Stephen F. Jacobs shares the following:

    Solar spectrograph rejuvenated!

Eight feet of brilliant colors, punctuated by narrow black Fraunhofer absorption lines, may be seen again at Flandrau Science Center thanks to the generosity of Plymouth Grating Lab. The original diffraction grating was donated by Bausch & Lomb in 1977.

He adds that technical specialist Bryan Smith also took this opportunity to clean its optics. Designed by Steve himself, the spectrograph was constructed by Charles J. Burkhart and featured on the cover of the September 1977 issue of Sky and Telescope magazine.
