On Friday July 9th Dr. Mike Nofziger and Hillary Mathis welcomed 47 high school students, from 15 different states across the USA, into a virtual Zoom classroom for the Wyant College of Optical Sciences’ 6th year of participation with the University of Arizona College of Engineering’s Summer Engineering Academy (SEA). After welcoming the students to our campus and our undergraduate program, we engaged them with demos and several hands-on optics projects. These at-home projects were made possible by sending the campers pre-planned kits with all the electronic and optical parts they would need. Our signature project was an “Infinity of Lights” display using an Arduino microcontroller and smart-LED’s.The virtual camp was a huge success with great engagement from the campers in a fun-filled day of optics!
