Graduate Student Appointments

SUMMER COMPENSATION

Graduate Summer Compensation form must be completed, signed by Principal Investigator and submitted to Academic Programs Office by Tuesday, May1, 2018 to ensure timely processing and payment. Contact Mark Rodriguez at mrod@optics.arizona.edu with any questions.

Be sure to complete all steps:

  1. Register for fall or summer classes. Note: Beginning with summer 2015, your funding paperwork will NOT be processed if you are not yet registered full time for the fall term (at least 6 units). If you are planning to graduate in Summer 2018 and plan to be employed, you must enroll in 6 units during the summer (3 units for each summer session 1 & 2). Please Note: GA benefits do NOT cover summer tuition.
  2. Obtain your supervisor's authorization signature and account number on the Graduate Summer Supplemental Compensation Form (PDF).
  3. Return completed paperwork to Mark Rodriguez in Meinel 412.

A .50 full-time equivalent (half-time; 20 hours per week) teaching or research assistant position includes a stipend, a full tuition waiver and student health insurance; a .25 FTE (quarter-time; 10 hours a week) position includes a stipend, a waiver of half tuition and student health insurance.

ATTENTION:  Graduate Student is not authorized to work, and Principal Investigator may not assign research project until funding and student academic registration is verified by OSC Academic Programs, Accounting, and Human Resources.   Retroactive hire/pay is not supported

Please note that teaching appointments are by semester only, and a separate graduate student appointment form must be completed for fall and spring semesters. Beginning Fall 2016, students are limited to 1.0 Full Time Equivalency (FTE) in teaching appointments. Students who surpass the 1.0 FTE limit must complete the online Graduate Student Teaching Appointment Petition form.  Upon completion of the online form, the student’s faculty advisor will be emailed a faculty petition. Both petitions must be filled out for consideration of additional teaching appointments.

All Fall 2018 Funding Appointment Forms must be received by 5 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2018 to ensure timely processing and payment. Students who have not completed their packets will be terminated from the system, resulting in late fees for the Fall 2018 semester. Please print the appropriate funding appointment form below and complete all pages, including the export control page, and obtain all required signatures before submission. The graduate student funding authorization form updated for Fall 2018 replaces all previous graduate student appointment forms.

If you need additional information or encounter any difficulties filling out the graduate student appointment form, please contact grad-funding@optics.arizona.edu.
