Student Groups

OSC students are nothing if not enthusiastic — alongside studying, working, playing and volunteering, many also spend their time with the busy student organizations here at the college, including:

  • The University of Arizona Student Optics Chapter
SOCk is an educational, professional and social outlet for undergrads and graduate students affiliated with the Optical Society (OSA) and SPIE. Among their many activities are the biweekly Community Speakers lecture series, Sports Friday and the annual Laser Fun Day outreach event.
  • Women in Optics
WiO was formed in 2008 to serve as a forum for women in the optical sciences community to exchange ideas and information; they participate in outreach opportunities to raise awareness and teach optics to future scientists of all ages.
  • Optics Ambassadors

The Optics Ambassadors program at the University of Arizona College of Optical Sciences is comprised of outstanding undergraduate and graduate student volunteers who provide outreach to prospective students and guests.

  • The University of Arizona Graduate & Professional Student Council (GPSC)
The GPSC was created to promote the causes and concerns of the graduate student body, to create and foster programs beneficial for growth and interaction, to disburse funds for the benefit of professional development, and to serve as the representative body and voice at the University of Arizona, the University of Arizona Administration, and the Arizona Board of Regents on behalf of graduate and professional students. This goal is achieved through the election of representatives, officers and hired personnel.
