OSC to Assist with Optics Industry SBA Contract
OSC will support technology creation and commercialization in collaboration with Arizona Technology Council member Strategy1which has been awarded a Small Business Administration (SBA) contract. The award includes $500,000 in 2019 as the base year and four potential option years to promote the growth of Arizona's optics industry. Read the full press release.

The University of Arizona College of Optical Sciences will be renamed in honor of Professor Emeritus James C. Wyant, the college's founding dean. Save the date for the special event taking place on April 23, 2019 at the James C. Wyant College of Optical Sciences.

Faculty Distinctions
Outstanding Paper Awarded to OSC Assistant Professor
Congratulations go to Judith Su on receiving the "Outstanding Paper of Light: Science & Applications" award, which will be presented at the Light Conference in July 2019. This award recognizes the paper entitled "Label-free detection of single nanoparticles and biological molecules using microtoroid optical resonators." Su has been asked to attend the Light Conference for an invited talk on the paper.

OIDA Workshop Poster Presentation Winner
Julie Frish won 1st place at the OIDA Workshop poster presentation on March 3rd in San Diego. OIDA is a sub-organization of OSA and CIAN is a sponsor for the OIDA Workshop. Her poster is up for viewing on the 5th floor between rooms 508 and 510.

OSC Graduate Featured in NSF Video
Carmiña Londoño, (OSC MS 1982) an optical engineer and Deputy Division Director at the National Science Foundation, provides a unique look in this video at her life as an immigrant and how STEM continues to provide exciting her opportunities. Carmiña received a B.S. in physics at the University of Lowell and an M.S. degree at the Optical Sciences Center at the University of Arizona in 1982.
