    Celebrating Light at Biosphere 2

    The college is joining up with the University's one-of-a-kind Biosphere 2 on Saturday, April 18, to celebrate both Earth Month and the International Year of Light. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., representatives from the outreach committee, SOCk and WiO will guide delighted guests through hands-on optics demos.

    Gather 'Round for the Group Photo

    Come one, come all – to the west side of the Meinel Building for the annual OSC group portrait!

    On Tuesday, April 21, at 2:15 p.m., we'll gather on the western lawn for one of the college's longest-running traditions. All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to join in.

    TRIF Fellowship Apps Due April 24

    The University of Arizona's 2015-2016 TRIF Imaging Fellowship, which supports Ph.D. students researching the development or novel utilization of imaging systems, is accepting applications through Friday, April 24.

    It's a Small World (Competition) for Microphotographers

    The Nikon Research Corporation of America, one of the college's Industrial Affiliates Leadership Partners, is sponsoring the Small World microphotography contest. Anyone who takes images through a light microscope is invited to submit their best and most beautiful work by April 30. Both still and moving imagery are welcome.

    Rules and guidelines are available on Nikon's MicroscopyU website. Be sure to check out previous years' winners!

    Adjunct Professor Begins University Presidency

    Makoto Kuwata-Gonokami, an adjunct professor at the College of Optical Sciences since 1990, commenced his term as the 30th president of the University of Tokyo in Japan on April 1.

    Trubko Receives Student Leadership Award

    Ph.D. student Raisa Trubko earned this year's UA Graduate and Professional Student Council Achievement Award for Outstanding Graduate/Professional Student Leadership, due to her work as founder and president of the UA Women in Physics club.

    Congrats to OSC's New Engineering Ambassadors

    Three undergraduates have been selected to represent the College of Optical Sciences in the UA Engineering Ambassadors program. Kudos go to Michael Crowe, Emma Landsiedel and Emily Mrkvicka!
