    Kevin (Rolland-)Thompson - OSC Alumnus of the Year 2015

    The College of Optical sciences has announced Kevin P. (Rolland-)Thompson as its 2015 Alumnus of the Year award winner. Thompson earned a Ph.D. degree from OSC in 1980 and currently serves as group director of research and development in optics at Synopsys, Inc.

    Eight undergraduates from around the U.S. joined us for a summer Research in Optics REU program. The students engaged in world-class optical science research and learned much about the application of optics. During the 10-week summer program, each student presented their work, showcased their research at a poster session, completed a GRE preparation course and took the GRE exam. To top it off, each student received a stipend of $5,000.

    Students in the Spotlight

    Five talented OSC students were among the Synopsys OSG Robert S. Hilbert Memorial Design Competition winners for 2015. The competition recognizes excellence in optical design projects completed by students from class assignments or thesis work.

    Watts Happening

    The University's Women in Science and Engineering group is looking for undergraduate optics students for its for-credit internship program and volunteer outreach staff. The internship program offers training in community and campus outreach, public relations, and program development and implementation all while helping increase interest and diversity in STEM fields.
