UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA AWARDED $26M TO ARCHITECT THE QUANTUM INTERNET
A five-year, $26 million, NSF grant to the University of Arizona was announced Tuesday, August 4, 2020, to fund the first phase of a new Engineering Research Center called the Center for Quantum Networks (CQN).

OSC CONGRATULATES ENDOWED CHAIRS & WELCOMES NEW FACULTY
The Wyant College of Optical Sciences is excited to announce that the first two Endowed Chairs enabled by the Distinguished Endowed Chair in Optical Sciences fund have been filled by David J. Brady and James T. Schwiegerling. Additionally, the Wyant College of Optical Sciences welcomes Ronald G. Driggers and Brandon Chalifoux as new faculty this Fall.

OSA FEATURES WYANT COLLEGE RESEARCH
Applied Optics has published a focus journal on 1 August 2020, Vol. 59, Issue 22, on the Wyant College of Optical Sciences. José Sasián served as the issue editor and facilitated the inclusion of a wide variety of articles from faculty, professors and students at the Wyant College.
IN MEMORIAM: HANS ROEHRIG
Hans Roehrig, professor emeritus of radiology and optical sciences, died on July 2. He was 85.

In total, 33 seniors from the Wyant College of Optical Sciences participated in Senior Design Day on 24 different Engineering Design Day Teams out of 115 Teams.

Prof. Jannick Rolland, OSC’s 2019 Alumna of the Year, and the Brian J. Thompson Professor of Optical Engineering at the University of Rochester, is a candidate for Vice President in OSA’s election for 2021 offices. OSA member should have received the email ballot for the election that ends on Friday, August 14th.
