Happy New Year from OSC

Research in Optics REU Applications Now Being Accepted
Applications for the 2017 Research in Optics (RiO) REU program are now being accepted. Undergraduate students interested in studying the field of light are encouraged to apply for this 10-week summer program. Applications are due no later than Feb. 28, 2017.
Winter School & Workshop Updates
While registration has closed for the 2017 Optics and Photonics Winter School & Workshop, you are invited to peruse the schedules and review last year's content, including schedule, lecture notes, abstracts and photos and videos.

Faculty Distinctions
Peyghambarian Named National Academy of Inventors Fellow
OSC Professor of Optical Sciences and Chair of Photonics and Lasers, Nasser Peyghambarian, has been elected as a 2016 Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors.

Investigating Satellites Catalogued as Debris - STTR Phase I

Su and McLeod Presented with TRIF Award
Assistant Professor Euan McLeod and Assistant Research Professor Judith Su were recently awarded a TRIF Undergraduate/Graduate Interdisciplinary "Link" Team Award. The $34,742 grant was given to the team for their proposal entitled Rationally Designed Photonic Nanostructures for More Sensitive and Robust Biochemical Optical Resonator Sensors.

Winter Commencement Photos Available
The 2016 Winter Commencement ceremony took place on Friday, Dec. 16 and was followed by a small celebration in the Meinel 3rd floor lobby. Photos of the event are now online in our photo gallery, and high-resolution versions are available by request.

Superlative Staff: Year-End Celebration
The remaining staff recognition awards were presented during the OSC Holiday Party, which took place on a balmy Thursday, Dec. 8 outside the Meinel building. Awards were given for the December SPOT, 4th Quarter Peer-to-Peer and Employee of the Year.
