Optics Students Win Research PitchFest

A group of graduate and undergraduate Optical Sciences students, led by R. John Koshel, won the 2015 Pitchfest in the Research category for their project, Illumination of Rothko's Paint at University of Arizona. What began as an illumination application from the OPTI 506: Radiometry, Sources and Detectors course, evolved into designing a lighting system to illuminate one of the UA Museum of Art's most valuable pieces, Rothko's "Green on Blue."
Winter School and Workshop a Success
The first inaugural Optics and Photonics Winter School and Workshop, which took place Jan. 5-9, 2016, was a resounding success. The school brought together 30 or so undergraduate students from top liberal arts colleges, technical colleges and universities for an overview of foundational topics in optics and photonics and their relation to current research.
Research in Optics Program: Last Chance to Register
If you're interested in being one of the 10 students accepted into the 10-week summer 2016 Research in Optics (RiO) REU program, don't forget that applications are due no later than Feb. 26! View the RiO webpage to view the available research programs and to apply online.
