    SOCk at the Suns!

    The UA Student Optics Chapter is organizing a group trip up north to catch the Phoenix Suns defend against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Tickets for the Feb. 10 game cost $35 each, and money is due to Ruth Corcoran in Meinel 403 by Jan. 16. (Checks should be made out to "Student Optics Chapter.") Got a question? Want to carpool?     Aberrations Text Coming Soon

    José Sasián's Introduction to Aberrations in Optical Imaging Systems, published by Cambridge University Press in December, will arrive in the States by the end of January. The text, described as "accessible," "valuable" and "provid[ing] an excellent introduction to the wave theory of aberrations," is available on Amazon.

    Tkaczyk Wins EO Award

    Adjunct professor Tomasz Tkaczyk is the recipient of the 2012 Norman Edmund Inspiration Award, which is chosen from among the first-place winners of the Edmund Optics Higher Education Grant Program.

    Alumni Dispatches

    Oschmann to Lead New Unit at Ball

    Alumnus Jim Oschmann, M.S. 1983, has been named the head of the Civil Space and Technology unit at Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., an OSC Industrial Affiliates member. Oschmann, who also serves on the college's development board, will be in charge of science and technology development for the company's civil customers.
