    Happy Fourth of July!

We wish all Watts Up! readers a festive and safe Independence Day weekend (and a happy, albeit belated, Canada Day to our neighbors to the north).

Colorful firework bursts against a dark sky

If you're in Tucson and want to see some fireworks through the monsoon clouds, UANews offers instructions on how to catch a glimpse from atop UA parking garages.

    EASIS a Smashing Success

The NSF Engineering Research Center for Integrated Access Networks held its Expect Academic Success In STEM summer camp in the Meinel Building from June 9 to June 13. Unsurprisingly, it was a fantastic time for everyone involved, including faculty, staff and — of course! — the 19 middle and high school students who came to campus to learn about optics.

CIAN has some pictures of the action on its blog, and the college took a few shots as well.

Moving Rainbows, Cabinets, Boxes and Cars

OSC's history has included a lot of ingenuity — in the classroom, in the lab, in the Student Union ... and on the loading dock?

    Mark Your Calendars!

In the midst of all the festivities surrounding SPIE Optics + Photonics in August, including the special conference convened in honor of OSC's 50th anniversary, the college invites alumni, Industrial Affiliates members and faculty to an evening soiree.

Learn How to Save a Life

The college will host an automated external defibrillator and CPR training session, led by Matt Darrow from the Sarver Heart Center, in the Franken Conference Room (Meinel 821) on Friday, Aug. 1.

Seating is limited. If you're interested in attending, please contact Maria Swarts at mswarts@optics.arizona.edu by July 25 to reserve your spot.
